GROUP EXERCISE PROGRAM
Physiotherapy at Don Mills is committed to providing affordable
physiotherapy and exercise programs with different focus groups:
Fit over
Fifty and Balance Training:
Small group
exercise program instructed by our certified kinesiologist and
supervised by our physiotherapist. This program aims to improve older
adults’ quality of life by increasing their general strength and ability
to independently perform daily tasks, and to prevent the risk of falls
by improving balance and coordination.
Core Stabilization: Small group class, maximum
of ten participants.
Level I:
Instructed by our certified kinesiologist and supervised by our
physiotherapist, this class is suitable for individuals with prior
low back/pelvis/ hip injuries. Core muscle activation and
stabilization exercises are taught with hands-on corrections and are
progressed into functional activities. The class would be part of a
maintenance exercise program to help prevent re-injury. This class
is not appropriate for clients with acute injuries. A
physiotherapist’s assessment is essential to determine one’s
eligibility.
Level
II: Instructed by our experienced certified personal trainer and
supervised by our physiotherapist, this class is for clients with no
particular injury or patients fairly recovered from injuries. The
class is aimed at maintaining and increasing core muscle strength,
improving posture and general fitness. Initial assessment by the
physiotherapist is necessary to determine eligibility.
KidFit: Our team of physiotherapist,
dietitian, kinesiologist and personal trainer are currently working on
introducing a small group exercise program for children at risk of
developing type 2 Diabetes and obesity. This program will aim to
increase the general fitness of children at risk and prevent these
conditions. Check back for program availability in winter 2009-10.
Walk Tall: Small group exercise program
taught by our certified kinesiologist and supervised by our
physiotherapist, aimed at minimizing the risk of fractures, improving
posture and increasing muscle strength and core stabilization for adults
with osteoporosis. Check back for program availability in winter
2009-10.
The fees for
these group exercise programs are often covered by extended health
insurance plans. Classes will be sold as packages of six-eight weeks and
are non-refundable and non-transferable.
