An Active Approach to Arthritis and Osteoporosis
Helping you to function independently and improve your quality of life is our passion, and so we take a dynamic approach to the prevention, management and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, including Arthritis and Osteoporosis. To ensure you the best possible care, we also maintain a close working relationship with your primary Physician.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Osteoporosis Programs
Your visit to OsteoDynamics will start with an assessment by a physiotherapist. This analysis will focus on your pain and inflammation levels, posture, fracture risk, and an evaluation of your level of function. It will then be determined whether you would benefit from an individualized program tailored to your specific needs, or if it is safe for you to join one of our group exercise programs.
Our Osteoporosis program is a combination of active exercise and nutritional consultations, and is conducted once per week for twelve weeks by our expert Physiotherapist and Kinesiologist. The initial twelve-week program will include a Physiotherapist assessment and a nutritional consultation with a Registered Dietitian. At the end of the twelve-week program, a functional assessment by the Physiotherapist will be performed to obtain objective
measurements of your improvement, which will be reported to your primary Physician, and more importantly to reward you for your efforts. Each subsequent twelve-week program will include reassessment by the
Physiotherapist, and one session with the Registered Dietitian.
Individual sessions are also available, should your specific needs require one-on-one attention.
The focus of our programs is to improve your flexibility, strength, endurance, posture, balance and coordination, as well as to educate you on proper body mechanics to prevent injuries and fracture.
Fall Prevention Program
People with Osteoporosis are more likely to suffer a bone fracture, which is most often caused by falling. Elderly people have a higher risk of fractures due to more frequent falls. Every year, about 40% of people over 65 fall at least once. Avoiding falls means fewer fractures, especially hip fractures. People with better posture, better balance and stronger muscles are less likely to fall, and are therefore less likely to be injured.
There are many causes of falling, but major factors that could put you at higher risk, include:
- Having experienced a fall
- Taking many different medications
- Having chronic diseases
- Having Arthritis, especially in the legs
- Problems with vision
- Poor or impaired balance
- Weak muscles
- Changes in blood pressure or heart rate
Our six-week Fall Prevention Program focuses on improving strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, and includes
education on many helpful topics, including safer living environments and proper footwear.
Our expert Physiotherapist will begin your program by performing a thorough assessment of your strength, balance and
functional abilities. Based on your level of function, you will be advised to join one of our classes, which are conducted twice per week, and are led by a Physiotherapist and a Kinesiologist. To ensure the suitability of the program to your needs, our team of experts will analyze regular evaluations of your improvement.
